Scientists at the University of Nottingham have engraved a microscopic portrait of the Queen onto a second-hand diamond in celebration of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee. It has been said that the diamond might be given as a gift to the Monarch.
This tiny engraving is so small that it could fit onto a postage stamp 300,000 times measuring just 46 by 32 microns. Prof Martyn Poliakoff, Dr Michael Fay and Dr Christopher Parmenter from the university’s Nanotechnology and Nano science Centre used a beam of charged gallium ions to engrave it on to the diamond.
Prof Poliakoff has said that he would like the diamond to be used as a celebration of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee; others would like it to be given to the Queen.
Use DiamondGeezer.com to have your own personal microscopic message, your own fingerprint, your own signature or even your very own Queens head to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee engraved onto your diamond. On February 22nd 2012 a rare pink 12.76ct diamond was found in Rio’s diamond operations in Kimberly, Australia. The rare pink stone has been named the Argyle Pink Jubilee. It’s been said to have taken 26 years to find such a rare stone, a stone so special that a similar one may never be found again. The Pink Jubilee is similar in colour to the 24ct diamond given to Queen Elizabeth II on her wedding anniversary.
A miner from Australia has said that the Pink Jubilee will take 10 days to cut and polish.
Who ever buys this rare pink diamond will be very lucky!

An interesting Panorama report on Zimbabwe’s Marange diamond fields and severe human rights violations from the BBC last night (8th August 2011).
DiamondGeezer.com recognised and drew attention to these problems and violations way back in November 2007.

Indeed there are over 65,500 references to our article from November 2007 on the ‘Net .

Zimbabwe is home to 11.9 million people and accounts for a tiny and estimated 0.4 percent of global diamond production. This once thriving landlocked African country has become increasingly dependent on diamond exports to support its collapsed economy. Partnership Africa Canada, a leading regional NGO has reported that Zimbabwe’s diamond industry is out of control. ‘The government has expropriated diamond lands and companies without due process and awarded the prizes to ZANU-PF supporters and to the military. It has used brute force to clear the diamond fields…murdering hundreds of people in the process. Increasing military control in almost all of the diamond mines, and over the Ministry suggests that a new conflict scenario may be developing.’
DiamondGeezer.com will continue to monitor the situation very carefully.

DiamondGeezer.com is a member of the Responsible Jewellery Council
8% of DiamondGeezer.com’s business is in gold.
92% is platinum and palladium.
At this time we mostly use recycled scrap gold.
We know the providence of the diamonds we sell.
Gold mining is not exclusive to Africa. Gold is mined in Alaska, the United States, Australia, China, Russia and even Wales. (to name but a few). Filming tiny, unofficial ‘off-piste’ digs, man and pick axe down a hole, creates a totally false image of the industry. Gold mining working conditions have improved from 10 years ago, but, like the mining of all metals, still have a long way to go but can only be improved if the revenue is earned and reinvested.
