9ct ‘Clark Pink’ Diamond Sold for $15.7 Million

Wednesday, April 18th, 2012

The famous Christie’s Auction House in New York was filled with excited bidders on Tuesday 17th April. In May 2011 Huguette Clark, one of the last heiresses of America’s Gilded Age, died at the grand age of 104 leaving behind her collection of jewels. Huguette Clark was said to have lived a reclusive life in her later years & she had stored her diamonds & precious gems in a vault since the 1940′s.

The jewel to stir up the most excitement on Tuesday was a 9ct pink diamond which has been given the name ‘Clark Pink’. The Clark Pink was estimated to fetch around $6-8 million, but little did the excited bidders know it was going to round up a massive $15.7 million. This wasn’t the only one of Clark’s jewels to go under the hammer, also being sold was a 19.86ct rectangular-cut diamond ring by Cartier that sold for $3.1 million; an Art Deco diamond bracelet by Cartier that sold for $578,500 and a ruby, sapphire, emerald and gold bracelet by Tiffany & Co. selling for $266,500. The collection was part of Christie’s Magnificent Jewels sale that took a total of $70.7 million.

A cushion-cut diamond ring is set to be the star performer at an upcoming New York auction.

Christie's expects the 22.79-carat colourless jewel to fetch between $2 million and $3 million (£1.3 million and $1.9 million) at the event, entitled All the Colors of the Season.

Specialising in clear and pigmented diamonds, the catalogue of 210 lots also includes a pear-shaped Fancy Intense Pinkish Orange ring weighing 10.91 carats, embellished with half-moon white diamonds, as well as an oval-cut Burmese ruby and diamond ring.

Christie's estimates the total amount made from the auction will be more than $20 million, with items between $600 and $6 million going under the hammer at the sale on December 7th at the Big Apple's famous Rockefeller Center.

Another recent Christie's auction held in Hong Kong this week broke the record for the most expensive item ever sold at an Asian auction.

The Perfect Pink diamond was bought by an anonymous bidder at the event for $23.2 million.

Perfect Pink diamond breaks Asian auction records

Tuesday, November 30th, 2010

The Perfect Pink diamond has changed hands for £14.86 million - a new record for an Asian auction.

A rare pink diamond has sold for $23.2 million (£14.86 million) at an auction in Hong Kong.

The stone, also known as the Perfect Pink, was bought by an anonymous bidder at the event, which was held by Christie's auction house.

Its valuable price tag makes it the most expensive jewel ever sold at auction in Asia, with Burmese rubies, Kashmir sapphire and jadeite also receiving high bids from buyers.

Vickie Sek, director of the jewellery and jadeite department of the auctioneer's Asian branch, said: "The strength of the jewellery market was once again demonstrated in Hong Kong with a record $78.9 million auction, making it the highest total ever for a jewellery auction in Asia."

She added that the Perfect Pink has become the most expensive jewel ever sold in Asia.

Earlier this month, the Fancy Intense Pink diamond broke all auction records after fetching £29 million – it was purchased by British jewellery trader Laurence Graff.

Diamond necklace worth 18-crore rupees goes to auction

Friday, November 19th, 2010

Indian diamond necklace is set to sparkle at Hong Kong auction.

A diamond necklace worth 18-crore rupees (£2.4 million) will be the star attraction at the first Indian collection set for auction in Hong Kong later this month.

According to New Delhi Television, the jewel, which has been valued using the Indian crore – equivalent to ten million rupees – will go under the hammer at Christie's on November 29th.

Boasting a 12.29-carat Golconda diamond as well as rare Argyle pink gemstones, the masterpiece weighs just 50 grams thanks to artful design.

The eye-catching precious stone and the smaller Argyles, mined in Australia, have been set in as little metal as possible to give the impression that the wearer is only sporting the gems.

Described by the publication as "one-of-its-kind", the item took 1,300 experts more than a year to craft.

British jeweller Laurence Graff recently took home the world's most expensive diamond, bought at auction for £29 million.

The investor, who successfully bid for the 24.78-carat 'fancy intense pink' gem, has named it the Graff Pink.
