Helen Mirren was given a diamond-encrusted safety pin by Russell Brand after shooting their new film together.

The actress, who was being interviewed on breakfast television show Daybreak gushed that the comedian is the "goodest boy you could possibly meet".

Known for her roles in The Queen, Calendar Girls and most recently Red, the star plays Russell's nanny in the movie Arthur, a remake of the 1981 comedy.

Mirren said that Brand had given her the sparkling present at the end of the film "as a prize".

Among the 20 interesting items that belonged to the royal couple in the event's catalogue was an articulated onyx and diamond bejewelled panther bracelet that sold for £4.5 million, making it the most expensive bracelet ever to have gone under the hammer.

According to the Daily Mail, the comedian and actor grabbed the royal's wrist in an attempt to strike up a conversation at the Pride of Britain ceremony last week.

Brand was quoted by the publication as saying: "He sort of tried to get away. I had him in a bit of a grip."

The event, which was held at London's Grosvenor House Hotel, gave the celebrity an opportunity to flaunt his wedding ring after marrying pop star Katy Perry in an Indian ceremony last month.

He remarked: "I like being married, it's very relaxing."

Perry has been photographed wearing a bejewelled band that matches her husband's.

The couple were pictured together at the MTV Europe Music Awards in Spain last week, the event was their first as a newly wedded couple after they returned from their honeymoon in the Maldives.
