Natalie Portman has been seen wearing a pair of understated diamond earrings to a red carpet event.

The Star Wars actress donned her sparkling accessories along with an asymmetrical belted black dress, black high-heeled pumps, a small purse and a side-swept up-do as part of her A-list look for the Gotham Independent Film Awards 2010 on Monday (November 29th).

Portman was attending the event, held at Ciprani on New York's Wall Street, after her new film Black Swan was nominated for Best Feature at the ceremony.

The movie tells the story of a ballet dancer who is in competition with a younger rival in a production of Swan Lake – where Portman's character Nina explores the darker side of her competitive nature.

According to Stylebistro, the actress wore her sparkling disc-shaped jewellery with a lacy black dress and loose tresses as part of her latest ensemble on a promotional tour for her new film, Conviction.

Swank, known for roles in Million Dollar Baby and Boys Don't Cry, stars in her new film as Betty Ann Waters, a girl who puts herself through college to study law in a 20-year long battle to exonerate her brother, who has been imprisoned for murder.

The production also stars Sam Rockwell as Swank's convicted brother, Minnie Driver and Juliette Lewis.

After trying on the sparkling accessories, she was also seen in designer outlets as well as outside a coffee shop chatting with her shopping companions.

Recently, Alison Keates, a jewellery expert, told the Daily Telegraph that simple diamond earrings in a stud style, rather than fancier designs, make the ideal gift when buying for somebody else.

She added that the accessories were the "equivalent of a classic white shirt" because of their timeless style appeal that the wearer could treasure, while rose gold is set to become a new craze for rings and pendants in the coming years.
