Diamond ring sells for $40k

Saturday, October 30th, 2010

A diamond ring containing a 0.65-carat precious stone has sold for more than estimated.

A diamond ring has changed hands for $40,000 (£25,000) during a jewellery auction in Dubai.

According to Retail Jewellery, the item far surpassed its estimate during the event at the Jumeirah Emirates Towers Hotel on October 27th.

The ring, which is part of a limited-edition collection containing ten pieces, is crafted from 18-carat yellow gold and features a dove motif.

It is set with a 0.65-carat diamond, as well as an 88-carat pink tourmaline

The diamond ring had originally been predicted to sell for between $8-$10,000 at the auction, which was titled Jewels and Watches: The Dubai Sale.

Also under the hammer at the sale was an elegant diamond necklace, which sold for $410,500 to an Asian private bidder, as well as an Art Deco ruby and diamond necklace, which fetched $338,500 from an anonymous buyer.

The news source noted the set from which the item comes features rings depicting one of three symbols – including a dove or a cross – that contain various-sized cabochon stones.

Coleen Rooney dons diamond ring on holiday

Friday, October 29th, 2010

Coleen Rooney wore a diamond ring - believed to be worth £200,000 - as she relaxed by the pool while on holiday.

Coleen Rooney has been spotted wearing a diamond ring while on holiday with her footballer husband Wayne in Dubai.

The 24-year-old was sporting the large piece as she relaxed by the pool at the seven-star resort the couple are staying at in the emirate, the Daily Mail reports.

According to the newspaper, the ring is believed to be the £200,000, ten-carat item she was given by her husband for her 21st birthday, which contains a yellow diamond.

The couple are on a break in Dubai as Rooney recovers from an injury and have been the subject of intense media speculation, after the footballer declared he wanted to leave Manchester United, only to sign an improved contract a few days later.

Mrs Rooney has seemingly forgiven her husband after it emerged he cheated on her with a prostitute and she was seen still wearing her wedding ring when the story broke in September.

Diamonds change hands in latest Zimbabwean auction

Wednesday, September 15th, 2010

Around 500,000 carats worth of diamonds were sold by the Zimbabwean government to six buyers during its latest transaction of gems from the Marange mine.

Rapaport news reports it had been given the figure by sources familiar with the matter, as the administration has refused to confirm details of the tender.

The deals, which took place between September 9th and September 13th and involved buyers from Antwerp, Dubai and India, were the latest in a series of sales being organised by the government since it was granted approval to sell and export diamonds from the mine by the Kimberly Process in July.

To date, approximately 1.6 million carats of diamonds sourced from Marange have changed hands since transactions were given the go-ahead.

Speaking to Agence France-Presse, secretary for mines Thankful Musukutwa stated: "Yes, the sales were carried out this weekend", but refused to provide any other details.

Another anonymous official said the process was overseen by Abbey Chikane of the Kimberley Process.
