X-Factor star Minogue will be able to wear her jewel – which could take the form of a diamond ring – in the £1 million mansion she and her model beau bought together in the former pop singer's hometown of Melbourne.

The pair welcomed their first child, Ethan, into the world four months ago.

Smith, who has been in Australia while his girlfriend has been filming the new series of X-Factor in the UK, called to say he misses her – and it was then that he decided to pop the question.

The couple are said to have been very emotional about getting engaged but can look forward to becoming a family.

In other celebrity news, Seth Rogen proposed to his girlfriend Lauren Miller last week while his bride-to-be was getting dressed.

The 40-Year-Old Virgin and Knocked Up actor was nervous about asking the question and hastily proposed while she was changing in the couple's closet.

Retailers have revealed that jewellery and watch sales have increased in the last four months.

Watches are doing well in the autumn sales, says an expert.

According to Retail Jewellery writer James Knowles, the monthly Distributive Trades Survey (DTS) has revealed that October was a good month for retailers, who saw an increase in sales for jewellery items – which may include sports watches.

Shop owners questioned by the Confederation of British Industry have witnessed growth for the fourth month running, recording an average of 58 per cent rise in trade in the last month.

The latest DTS also showed customers returning to the high street has given the industry more confidence, with 43 per cent of retailers expecting sales to rise again this month.

These figures follow recent findings from Gem Diamonds, which has seen a 25 per cent rise in jewellery sales, with much of the growth in popularity coming from the Far East.

It also reported that it has witnessed a 25 per cent price increase as demand continues to grow.

She did, however, state that her separation was "courageous".

The couple have been married for 11 years and have a six-year-old daughter Coco.
