The ‘Martian Pink’ is an extremely rare 12 carat pink diamond that is so adored that it sold for $17.4 million (£11.1 million) in Hong Kong on Tuesday 29th May. The name ‘Martian’ came from the celebrity master jeweller Harry Winston who was so impressed that the Americans had landed on Mars in 1976 that he decided to look into his inventory & find a rough diamond that would more than likely be pink. After cutting the diamond to perfection, Harry Winston unveiled the most intense pink diamond  he had ever seen or cut before. The current owner of the ‘Martian Pink’ wanted the diamond to be sold in Hong Kong where it would demand a higher price. The buyer of this beautiful rare pink diamond is anonymous & placed the winning bid over the phone, he/she must be extremely proud to own such a rare & beautiful diamond.

Perfect Pink diamond breaks Asian auction records

Tuesday, November 30th, 2010

The Perfect Pink diamond has changed hands for £14.86 million - a new record for an Asian auction.

A rare pink diamond has sold for $23.2 million (£14.86 million) at an auction in Hong Kong.

The stone, also known as the Perfect Pink, was bought by an anonymous bidder at the event, which was held by Christie's auction house.

Its valuable price tag makes it the most expensive jewel ever sold at auction in Asia, with Burmese rubies, Kashmir sapphire and jadeite also receiving high bids from buyers.

Vickie Sek, director of the jewellery and jadeite department of the auctioneer's Asian branch, said: "The strength of the jewellery market was once again demonstrated in Hong Kong with a record $78.9 million auction, making it the highest total ever for a jewellery auction in Asia."

She added that the Perfect Pink has become the most expensive jewel ever sold in Asia.

Earlier this month, the Fancy Intense Pink diamond broke all auction records after fetching £29 million – it was purchased by British jewellery trader Laurence Graff.

Diamond necklace worth 18-crore rupees goes to auction

Friday, November 19th, 2010

Indian diamond necklace is set to sparkle at Hong Kong auction.

A diamond necklace worth 18-crore rupees (£2.4 million) will be the star attraction at the first Indian collection set for auction in Hong Kong later this month.

According to New Delhi Television, the jewel, which has been valued using the Indian crore – equivalent to ten million rupees – will go under the hammer at Christie's on November 29th.

Boasting a 12.29-carat Golconda diamond as well as rare Argyle pink gemstones, the masterpiece weighs just 50 grams thanks to artful design.

The eye-catching precious stone and the smaller Argyles, mined in Australia, have been set in as little metal as possible to give the impression that the wearer is only sporting the gems.

Described by the publication as "one-of-its-kind", the item took 1,300 experts more than a year to craft.

British jeweller Laurence Graff recently took home the world's most expensive diamond, bought at auction for £29 million.

The investor, who successfully bid for the 24.78-carat 'fancy intense pink' gem, has named it the Graff Pink.

Pink diamond ‘to fetch $7m’ at Hong Kong auction

Wednesday, September 29th, 2010

A pink diamond set in a ring that also features smaller versions of the precious stones is to go up for sale in Hong Kong.

A pink diamond is expected to sell for up to $7 million (£4.4 million) when it goes under the hammer at a Sotheby's auction in Hong Kong next month.

The International Diamond Exchange reports the guide price for the 6.43-carat precious gem is between $933,000 and $1.08 million per carat.

It will be up for sale at the Magnificent Jewels and Jadeite event on October 6th and the news source notes the estimated price may even be exceeded, as demand for coloured diamonds is traditionally high at Hong Kong events.

The gem, set in a ring that also includes a cluster of pear-shaped diamonds, is one of a number of items that will be available at the auction.

Also up for sale will be two diamonds weighing nearly 11 carats each, which are estimated to sell as a pair for between $3.3 million and $3.9 million.

The Bulgari Blue Diamond ring – which features the world's largest blue diamond – is expected to go for in excess of $12 million at a Christie's auction on October 20th.
