What is Micro Pave?

Micro pavé is a term used for jewellery that has literally been paved with diamonds that have been very closely set. A micro pavé ring is usually a large centre stone diamond surrounded by tiny one hundredth of a carat diamonds that are set down the shoulders of the ring. Micro pavé is also known as a bead setting due to the diamonds resembling small beads. To achieve a micro pavé setting, the ring is drilled to create a taper hole where the diamonds are placed & the metal is pushed over the edges of the stones. Micro pavé settings give any size centre stone the illusion of being larger than it really is because of the clusters of diamonds surrounding it.  DiamondGeezer.com have a beautiful collection of micro pavé diamond & precious gem jewellery that they have spent 3 months designing along with a very skilled design team that can design and create any style of micro pavé jewellery. Hope Diamond to be drilled in upcoming documentary

Wednesday, October 27th, 2010

A team of experts will drill into the Hope Diamond in a forthcoming documentary in an effort to create a fingerprint of the gem.

An upcoming documentary on the Hope Diamond will follow a team of experts who drill into the precious gem in a bid to learn more about its unique properties.

Mystery of the Hope Diamond, which has been produced to mark the 50th anniversary of the precious stone being donated to the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History and will be screened on the Smithsonian Channel in the US, will see the specialists use a Time of Flight Secondary Ion Mass Spectrometer on the diamond.

This will split the sample of the diamond into its atoms and sort them by weight – as well as magnify the image 1,000 times – resulting in what the Smithsonian describes as an "atomic fingerprint" of the gem.

In the documentary, which is being voiced by Kim Basinger, the Hope will also be modelled by Hilary Rhoda and placed in a new surround, as it has been on show at the museum without one since September 2009.

The Cullinan Blue Diamond Necklace is currently on display at the Smithsonian, which received it as a gift last month ahead of its 100th anniversary celebrations.

Pink diamond ‘to fetch $7m’ at Hong Kong auction

Wednesday, September 29th, 2010

A pink diamond set in a ring that also features smaller versions of the precious stones is to go up for sale in Hong Kong.

A pink diamond is expected to sell for up to $7 million (£4.4 million) when it goes under the hammer at a Sotheby's auction in Hong Kong next month.

The International Diamond Exchange reports the guide price for the 6.43-carat precious gem is between $933,000 and $1.08 million per carat.

It will be up for sale at the Magnificent Jewels and Jadeite event on October 6th and the news source notes the estimated price may even be exceeded, as demand for coloured diamonds is traditionally high at Hong Kong events.

The gem, set in a ring that also includes a cluster of pear-shaped diamonds, is one of a number of items that will be available at the auction.

Also up for sale will be two diamonds weighing nearly 11 carats each, which are estimated to sell as a pair for between $3.3 million and $3.9 million.

The Bulgari Blue Diamond ring – which features the world's largest blue diamond – is expected to go for in excess of $12 million at a Christie's auction on October 20th.
