Pop star and actress Hilary Duff has claimed that she thought her $1 million engagement ring from Mike Comrie was a fake.

Hilary Duff has admitted she thought the diamond ring Mike Comrie proposed to her with was fake.

According to Access Hollywood, the pop singer and actress did not believe the jewel was real because it was so big.

"I was kind of scared to look at [the ring], " the former Disney star was quoted by the publication as saying.

She added: "I got a glance and it was like, are you crazy? There's no way that's real."

The couple married in the Californian town of Santa Barbara in August, six months after ice hockey star, Comrie, popped the question on a Hawaiian holiday.

The 14-carat ring reportedly cost the Canadian hockey star $1 million (£625,000), but Duff claimed she was never interested in how valuable it is.

Former singer Danni Minogue made the headlines recently after boyfriend Kris Smith proposed over the phone and the X-Factor judge is now said to be designing her own engagement ring.

Guy Ritchie may be about to propose to his girlfriend of six months, it has been suggested.

According to the Sunday Mirror, Madonna's ex is considering proposing to Jacqui Ainsley, who he has been dating for the past six months.

A source told the newspaper it is "only a matter of time" before filmmaker Ritchie, who has directed Snatch, RocknRolla and Sherlock Holmes, gets down on one knee with a wedding ring.

"She's besotted with Guy and wants to marry him. And Guy seems thrilled to have found her," the unnamed individual was quoted as saying.

However, the person also noted Ainsley is "nervous" about announcing an engagement, because she is concerned about how Madonna – who is still friends with Ritchie – will react.

The news comes shortly after it emerged Tom Hardy – who starred in Ritchie's RocknRolla – is to marry Charlotte Riley, the actress he met on the set of a television adaptation of Wuthering Heights.
 

Gem Diamonds has recovered a 196-carat diamond from its Letseng mine in Lesotho.

A 196-carat diamond has been discovered in a Lesotho mine that has a track record of producing excellent examples of the precious gems.

The item was recovered from the Letseng mine late last month and owner of the facility Gem Diamonds said the rough diamond is "expected to achieve a substantial price per carat" and will produce high-quality polished stones.

Letseng has produced three of the world's 20 biggest diamonds since mid 2006 – including the 603-carat Lesotho Promise that sold for $12.4 million (£8.06 million) – and chief executive officer of Gem diamonds said the latest discovery "reinforces its position as one of the great mines in the diamond industry".

He added the company – which also has operations in Botswana, Australia and Angola – is working to expand production in the area in a bid to recover more of the precious stones.

The firm, which is based in London, sold 245 rough diamonds over 10.8 carats in the six months to June 30th.
